  • Excellent children's program. The Young Presidents Organization awarded C Lazy U the 'Best Parent-Child Program' award
  • World class cuisine: Fine wines and dining, and the opportunity to put on your nice evening attire
  • Unbeatable service, they call it their "five-spur service"
  • Named as one of the Top 25 spas in Colorado, authentic tent setting, massages, facials, manicures, pedicures and the 'Cowboy Soak'; a relaxing moonlit soak in deep copper tubs overlooking the creek. Complete with champagne and strawberries
  • A high return rate for guests – guests report friendly staff, well-cared for horses, amazing food and gorgeous landscape

  • While the children's program does not allow for parents and kids to ride together most of the week, it does allow for children to learn their horsemanship skills without the pressure they might feel if parents were present. Friday morning is a family ride and there are vast additional opportunities for family time. Fly-fishing lessons, guided hiking, mountain biking, archery, tennis lessons and more, making time spent together completely up to you

Sample Riding Itinerary

  • During a typical stay, kids and adults have the opportunity to ride twice a day, every day, improving their riding skills on horses that are anything but nose-to-tail animals. C Lazy U’s wranglers take pride in the natural horsemanship techniques they use to train independent, fun to ride horses; and at the end of a week’s stay, guests participate in a shodeo to show off the skills they have acquired during their vacation.

Children at the Ranch

Great for children aged 3 and over

For more than half a century, experienced ranch counselors have refined a program that teaches children and teens skills that build confidence and independence. The program revolves around horseback riding every day. Kids aged 3-5 are given pony rides, while older kids are taken on guided trail rides and given lessons in horsemanship according to their age and skill level.

Between rides, the kids flock to the Patio House to swim, play table tennis or air hockey, shoot pool or play outside. Counselors are with the children all day to supervise their activities, even during nap time for the little ones. Archery, scavenger hunts, Capture-the-Flag, volleyball, rowing boats, fishing, cookouts, hay rides and a carnival are just some of the added children’s activities. Winter offers ice skating, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, tubing and sledding. There is also a supervised children's center with reading, games, and arts and crafts. The Teen Program includes off-site trips such as hiking and overnight camping, white water rafting, and heading off to a local rodeo.

There is a balance of family time and adventure time: during breakfast and after dinner, families spend time together, but the kids are 'on the ranch' for the remainder of the day. At C Lazy U, kids have the vacation of a lifetime and are kept busy from sunrise to sunset. Adults can truly relax during their vacation on the ranch, knowing that the kids are happily occupied.

The ranch was homesteaded by original pioneers in the later 1800s and early 1900s.

The ranch had been run as a guest ranch since 1919 under the 'F Slash Ranch' name until 1946, when its name was changed to the C Lazy U.

Over its 95+ year history as a guest ranch, it has only traded between different owners four times, which has allowed it to maintain its western traditions.
