For a luxurious taste of what it was like to be the Man From Snowy River, this is the horseback riding adventure for you! Snowy River Horseback Adventures specializes in leading small groups on two- to five-day treks across the snowy river countryside.

Experienced guides take you along bush trails, old stock routes, fire and brumby trails, winding through forests of majestic snowgums and mountain ash.

Our adventure treks meander through the pristine and unique Snowy Mountains on the southern side of Jindabyne, with trails along crystal clear streams, climbing up to peaks which offer awesome picture postcard views of the ranges, valleys and the mighty Snowy River gorge.

Canter along the open plains surrounded by impressive mountains cloaked in their blue haze and wind your way up through the bush on tracks used by brumbies.

The riding country offered is second to none, mountainous with lots of variations, making each and every day in the saddle interesting and different.

An average distance of approximately 30 km a day is covered. Our very scenic part of the Australian Alps houses a large variety of wildlife, such as emus, kangaroos, wombats, wallabies, echidna and deer, an abundance of bird life, as well as herds of brumbies (Australian wild horses).

  • Horse Treks run October-May, please keep an eye on our specials and events

Setting

  • Private Land - 250-1000 (acres)

  • Old Ingebirah Homestead is an 800 acre working cattle farm and provides every visitor with a true high country experience. Set in the heart of the NSW Snowy Mountains, our trails meander through pristine and unique Snowy Mountains; tall, majestic stands of alpine Ash; we canter across springy snow-grass meadows studded with alpine wild flowers; traverse steep and spectacular climbs with views over the Snowy River Gorge. The tortured and twisted shapes of Snow Gums stand sentinel as snow covered ranges rear up to meet the sky.
  • Public Land - 20,000-40,000 (acres)

  • From our home we access large tracts of State Forest and private property surrounded by wilderness. Huge variety in the terrain ensures that no two days riding are the same!

Each evening after about 30kms of riding, relax and enjoy a candlelit multi-course dinner with your other riding companions.

Our exceptional three course dinners are prepared by our very own Danish Chef Henrik Mortenson, and Danielle's mother Evelyn Chrystal.

Local produce is incorporated into the menu where possible with salad greens and fresh herbs picked from our extensive "Old Ingebirah" gardens. Locally produced grass-fed beef, smoked trout and Hobbit Farm goats cheese are just a sample of the wonderful local foods used in our menus.

A highlight of every day on the trek are our gourmet picnic luncheons, carried along by our trusty pack horse.Riders are treated to a selection of delicacies, pate and cheeses, cold meats and salads. A chilled bottle of Australian white wine or fruit juices are all part of this delicious picnic out in the bush.

Feeling thoroughly fulfilled, sit back with a cup of billy tea and a slice of homemade cake and enjoy.

Children at the Ranch

Great for children aged 10 and over

There is plenty of room for the kids to run, ride bikes & explore in a safe environment. They can meet and feed the animals. On a clear night you can show the family a million stars or take a torch lit walk in search of possums and owls.

We recommend children should be 10 and older and capable riders to enjoy our treks; children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.

The riding treks are more generally adult-focused, however we find parents and kids do have a ball riding the high country together. When children do participate they generally catch on very quickly!

Owner operators Glen Dixon and Danielle Terne purchased Snowy River Horseback Adventure in 2000. The business had been in operation since 1993.

Both Glen and Danielle had long nurtured the desire to own and operate their own horse trekking business and both had worked in the industry at different times in their lives and were united in a vision of a unique establishment that would offer the highest quality experience for guests.

Their goal was to provide a ride that would both satisfy the experienced horseperson and provide an appropriate introduction to the novice rider. Now in their 10th season, Snowy River Horseback Adventure celebrates the opening of a luxurious new purpose-built guest wing.

Over the past 10 years Glen and Danielle have developed a reputation for quality unsurpassed in the field of horseback trekking.
